Citation: Mihajlović, F. (2018). The threat of maritime piracy in the 21st century (Bachelor's dissertation).
Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to put into perspective the real threats and risks that are posed by maritime piracy in the 21st century, and the security and safety issues it entails. It also argues what is being done to combat these type of incidents or at least, to reduce them. This dissertation aims to define the term ‘piracy’ and determine laws and strategies that are currently in place in relation to this activity. Apart from the theoretical and factual side of this dissertation, the author also describes and discusses two case studies to help see the information come to life. This is made with special reference to two particular crucial regions in the world: The Horn of Africa, particularly the Somali coast, and Southeast Asia, particularly the Malacca Straits.
