Abstract: | “We appear to be drowning in waste” (Trentman, 2016). Mass consumerism leads to mass pollution. Plastic is found in everything we use, from our packaged food to the toothpaste we brush out teeth with. It is mass consumed, over used and is contaminating seas; the same seas that absorb vast amount of carbon dioxide to provide humanity with the clean air and nourishing food that we need to survive. By placing our environment into perspective, the aim of this project is to create a space where individuals are exposed to the stark reality of this plastic epidemic and can experience the sensation of living in a world surrounded by plastic waste. The creation of an artistic installation will lay bare these facts and serve as a step in the direction of knowledge, action and a change in the right direction. |
