Abstract: | The paradigm of a United States of Europe has been discussed at EU level on some occasions. Being interested in this concept, I have decided to conduct a study regarding this concept as regards the modern debate. However, the notion of a United States of Europe has a long history. This research will, therefore, examine how this concept has developed over time. This research mainly focuses on the effect of the US on the concept of a USE. It will also look into the unratified Constitutional Treaty and discuss the impacts it had on the idea of a federal Europe. Another scope of this dissertation is to look into the Lisbon Treaty and identify whether this treaty was a step towards or a step back from a federal Europe. |
