Abstract: | This is a biographical account of the life and service of Mgr John Sladden to honor the centenary of his birth. It begins with his childhood in Senglea presenting his early influences and family life before moving onto his life in priesthood. Navigating through the various ranks he held within the Church, we learn more about the time, effort and intelligence he dedicated towards his faith and community making him an influential religious leader to the Maltese people, on and offshore. Mgr John Sladden is also known for the ambitious restoration projects he led during the war as well as other academic and administrative contributions. The article comes to a close with details of his final days after serving 18 years as Archpriest. This was published as part of the newspaper’s Life & Wellbeing segment and features a collection of photographs. |
