| Abstract: | The InfoBit talk focuses on the topic of digital libraries and their significance in the 21st century. Do they represent the next evolutionary stage of libraries as information institutions? The talk first defines a digital library and presents its key characteristics. Next, advantages and disadvantages are consulted (especially in comparison with traditional libraries). Lastly, the presentation showcases four examples of freely available digital libraries: Project Gutenberg, Digital Public Library of America, Europeana and arXiv.org. |
