| Abstract: | The infant mortality rate in Malta has shown a remarkable fall in the last decade; it has decreased progressively from a figure of 210 per 1,000 live births in 1943 to that of 64.3 per 1,000 live births in 1953. (Report on Health Conditions, 1953). Our neonatal mortality rate, however has not shown a corresponding improvement, the ratio remaining almost static during the 1943 - 1953 period at a rate of 39 - 34 neonatal deaths per 1,000 live births. |
