The aim of the analysis was to determine the procedures adopted by the management for ensuring health and safety for the employees, and for those affected by its activities. The methodology was based on the main findings and recommendations of the accident investigation, magisterial inquiry, and safety audit report of the January 2000 accident and from other reports within the Department. The outcome of the analysis outlines the events leading to the accident, and the implementation of control measures to safeguard employee's health and safety, and to comply with legal obligations. The long essay concludes with possible recommendations to assist the Drainage Department to prevent other fatal accidents to occur.
