dc.description.abstract[...] The study is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 - An Overview of the Situation in Malta. In this chapter the situation as regards provision for disabled in Malta is compared with other European countries. It deals with the change in thinking and attitudes towards disabled persons after 1982 - the International Year for the Disabled. Chapter 2 - The Market and Statistics. Surveys This chapter deals with the British population and involves calculations of British tourists that visit our country. It also calculates the potential of the British disabled tourist market who would visit Malta if the hotels and public places were to become more accessible. This section also deals with the results obtained from the surveys conducted. The first is one a questionnaire distributed to 40 major hotels and the second one is a survey held at the Malta International Airport to people with special needs. Another survey was conducted at some of the hotels that had replied to the first questionnaire. Chapter 3 - Identifying Problems and giving Recommendations. This Chapter deals with the identification of problems that disabled tourists might encounter and the recommendations to such problems which would help them enjoy their holiday. Chapter 4 - Opportunities for further research. This chapter highlights what can be improved and gives a quick overview of this dissertation.en_GB
