Health and safety awareness of Maltese commercial divers

Abstract

This study attempts to elicit the level of health and safety awareness, which may vary according to the diving category, age, qualifications, training and experience of Maltese commercial divers. The interviews revealed that the divers are well aware of the health and safety hazards and risks involved in diving operations. However, with more commitment, resources and investment, this current situation may be improved. If the recommendations are applied, a higher level of health and safety would be achieved by these divers, hence ascertain that the adequate levels of awareness are attained.
