As transport is a service - a means to an end, and essential to social activity there should be an efficient transport network. In 1998 Sir Colin Buchanan said “we have decided the axe had to fall on the car at some point. But when it came round the question of can we get rid of the car, the answer was that it really was a useful invention. It was like the horse and cart - only with better horse” (17 August Planner Week). As the number of vehicles increased considerably, new roads have to take place. Also, in some streets there should be no access for some type of vehicles. I have done a study on how to improve the traffic situation of Victoria Gozo. I have done a questionnaire involving 400 persons, traffic counts and meetings with several departments, Local councils among others. As today everyone who enters in Victoria with a vehicle finds it a bit difficult to access, I tried to give a solution on how to ameliorate the traffic situation of Victoria. The two major problems of Victoria are: lack of parking facilities and the main roads do not cope with the high volume of traffic flow. I have studied the present car park situated at the back of the Aurora Theatre and also, I studied an area where a car park has to be erected. Also, a by-pass is required in order to eliminate half the traffic of Victoria.en_GB
