Abstract: I am a planning technician trainee at the Planning Authority. I have been following a two year course in land administration in order to obtain a higher certificate in land administration. The curriculum of the course includes the write up of a dissertation. This dissertation has. to be related to a particular form of planning concerned with the Maltese islands. Choosing a topic for the thesis was quite an ordeal and various factors had to be taken into consideration. First of all one has to find an appropriate topic to write about. A topic which is interesting. A topic which one can easily expand on. This is very important, because an adequate amount of detail has to be conveyed in the most efficient and comprehensible way. If the topic is not interesting to write about, then the output is likely to be just as boring and not up to the required standards which are expected from the tutors of the course. 'Ta' Paris' is quite a vast area in B'Kara. It has been under development for the past 22 years and it is still growing at quite a constant rate. It is mostly a habitual area which mostly consists of terraced houses and government housing schemes. The 'Tal-Qattus' area is still fairly undeveloped and this offers the opportunity to apply certain levels of development which can provide services to the habitants of the area. Quite a few services are lacking in the area and it is important that these services are provided for the people of the area. This area seemed to be a good area to talk about and so it was decided to write up a dissertation about Ta' Paris. This report consists of a detailed description of Ta' Paris. It describes the physical characteristics of the area and it also describes the existing situation in Ta' Paris. Since no records could be found about the area, information had to be analysed from the place itself. This was done by carrying out a land use survey which provided information about the physical characteristics of the area. A questionnaire was also carried out. This enabled me to recognise the existing situation and lacking facilities - which are to be found in the area. The B'Kara local council was also interviewed in order to see if any proposals are being laid down in the area. The final chapter lays down a number of proposals which can be applied to future development in the area. An appendix has also been provided in order to illustrate maps, photographs and other diagrams which provide a visible means of understanding for this report.
