Abstract: | This individual project considers the cultural origins of tradition, involving common people and particularly the process through which it is transmitted from one generation to the next. Starting with a general view of the meaning of tradition, it goes on to identify patterns of urbanisation and planning processes. This is discussed through analyses of local village cores by means of a case study in Tarxien and Gudja. Reference is made to the effect of legislation in the composition of street elevations, and general planning procedures. The project aims to show the effects of traditional and cultural values in urbanisation. The importance of accepting and conserving the natural heritage in the Maltese village cores is stressed, and the work of the Planning Authority in this regard is also analysed. |
