dc.description.abstract | Purpose: This study sets out to provide an insight on the different fundraising strategies used by two local voluntary organisations; Puttinu Cares Foundation (Puttinu) and SOS Malta (SOS). Voluntary organisations depend on Fundraising to fund their missions and projects, therefore, fundraising is essential to a voluntary organisation survival. Design: To achieve the objectives of this study, extent literature and documents have been reviewed and a series of interviews have been carried out with representatives of the voluntary organisations and the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations. Findings: Puttinu's fundraising strategy revolves around one major fundraising activity per year; their Annual Football Marathon. The organisation also relies on third parties that organise events on their behalf. SOS's fundraising strategy is built around public donations and fundraising events, the organisation also relies heavily on public and EU funding as well as its partnership projects with Government and corporate sponsorhship. Conclusions:SOS's fundraising strategy is more diverse and adaptable to changing needs of the organisation as well as the availability of resources. A mix of fundraising sources can help in ensuring an organisation's sustainability. Based on the literature and the finidings, potentially new sources of funding have been highlighted. A number of interesting recommendations have also been made with regards to the subject matter that can be used industry wide. Implications/Value: The research highlights a mix of fundraising sources and recommendations that help to ensure the sustainabilty of the voluntary sector which has made significant contributions within society over time. | en_GB |
