Aim: To assess the influence of diabetes on the progression of peripheral arterial disease in patients with intermittent claudication. Methods: All participants who were referred to a vascular unit within a local hospital due to intermittent claudication (IC) over 1 year were recruited and followed for two years. Ethics approval was obtained from the University research ethics committee (University of Malta). Haemodynamic analysis and blood tests (including HbA1c and fasting blood glucose) were recorded at baseline. Lower limb haemodynamics and participant outcomes were recorded at 12 and 24 months.
