Abstract: This collection of chapters puts forward a number of perspectives on active and healthy ageing as they affect Maltese society. The chapters also present an exceptional repertoire of original empirical studies on various matters relating to gerontological, geriatric, and dementia care. The authors meet the tricky quest of identifying Malta’s progress in social and health policy without looking sight of the remaining lacunae. The collection of chapters highlight how the policy initiatives launched in recent years – in addition to University of Malta’s new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in gerontology, geriatrics, and dementia studies – have served to improve capacity building in active ageing.
