Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) uses antibodies for the specific and simultaneous detection of molecules. This article discusses applying this technique to the identification of protein- and carbohydrate-based materials in wall painting samples from the collection of replicas created at the laboratory of the conservator Leonetto Tintori. The organic materials we identified are collagen from glue, oval- bumin from egg white, casein from milk, and polysaccharides from plant gums.en_GB
