Abstract: | Jobs, growth and investment are at the core of the new Commission's programme, and the Education and Training Monitor shows clearly that these objectives can only be met if we invest properly in our people and put education at the heart of economic and social policy. Social inclusion and growth are two sides of the same coin. Improving education is urgent and vital, not only because it lifts productivity and prevents structural and long-term unemployment, but because education remains the engine behind social mobility and the safety net against social exclusion. These themes are at the core of the European strategic framework for cooperation in education and training (ET 2020), and are reflected in the new priorities of the Draft 2015 Joint Report, as proposed by the Commission in August. |
