Abstract: | The chapter examines the interaction between gender, the media and patriarchal political institutions with reference to the Maltese islands. Malta is a micro-state on the southernmost periphery of the European Union, at the very heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Maltese women obtained political rights in 1947 but their parliamentary participation remained more or less 10% because of cultural and political-economic factors. The article looks at the role of the media in all this. |
