Abstract: Uterine fibroids are common benign uterine tumours occurring in 20–40% of women in their reproductive years, peaking in the fifth decade. They are most prevalent in women of Afro-Caribbean ethnicity . Afro- Caribbean women are also more likely to develop larger fibroids at a younger age . Venous thrombosis is not an uncommon complication of pregnancy and gynaecological malignancy. Recently, Barsam et al reported on the increased likelihood of thrombosis with fibroids, and this was not always related to pressure effects. We report similar findings at our institution. [Excerpt]
