It is always an elating experience when a previously unknown document or work of art is brought to light, especially when this document refers to the magnificent oeuvre of Antonio Sciortino (1879-1947). On the 20th December 1902, Sciortino, in Rome, on the brink of his twenty-fourth birthday, signed a receipt for the expenses incurred in the production of a plaster model of a small Crucifix, and the transportation to Malta of a silver cast (69 x 43cm) of the same Crucifix. The signed receipt survives in the Żejtun Parish Archives. In it, Sciortino declares that he had received the sum of £37.18.1 ¼ from Rev. Felice Micallef Grimaud, Procurator of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament of Żejtun parish church, as payment for the cost of silver, manufacture, packing and postage for a silver Crucifix and its plaster model. The receipt is further buttressed by a more detailed account in the registers of the mentioned Żejtun confraternity. [Excerpt]en_GB
