Abstract: The works by Carlo Pisi in Malta and Gozo have never been discussed holistically; only a couple have received some isolated attention in undergraduate and postgraduate studies that were not exclusively focused on the artist. This short study attempts to throw light on Pisi's sizeable 'Maltese' output, placing it within the larger context of the artistic scenarios in Italy and Malta. To the contrary of what has been thought and written until now, recent research has unequivocally established that Carlo Pisi was not of Roman origin. This assumption was obviously generated by the fact that the larger part of the artist's career was spent in Rome. His local production, in fact, as confirmed by the signatures appearing on various works, was all produced in the Eternal City. Moreover, the known documents always refer to him as Roman. [Excerpt]
