Abstract: History has been generous with Malta. Eminent personalities who distinguished themselves in various fields have left their indelible mark in Malta thus enriching our country's heritage. Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio, was one such personality. Caravaggio's short stay in Malta (barely fifteen months) was, however, long enough to endow this Island with masterpieces which are dealt with and discussed in this publication. Caravaggio has been used and abused, understood and misunderstood, derided and idolised. His revolutionary approach towards art coupled with his turbulent life have, unfortunately, led many authors to create legends favouring or disfavouring this genius. During these last decades Caravaggio's popularity has been increasing rapidly. Studies on him are increasing in number and depth. We have felt it our duty towards Caravaggio and Malta to contribute further, thus entrenching once again Mid-Med Bank's determination to foster serious studies on Malta's cultural heritage.
