Abstract: This paper attempts to unearth the structure and the dynamics underlying British commercial relations with Tripoli in the first half of the nineteenth century. In this context, the development of Anglo-Tripoline commerce is examined as an integral part of British imperial expansion in the region. The nature of British imperial requirements in Tripoli and the commercial intercourse this created will be put into focus
