dc.description.abstract | The substantial collection of silverplate, together with other decorative and ornamental works in different media in possession of Nadur parish church, has never been collectively studied. Several of these objets d’art, nonetheless, have been discussed in some of my studies. This volume has presented an excellent occasion for their scientific analysis. They represent the stylistic metamorphosis of design and decoration in the Maltese Islands from the time of the Knights of St John to the twentieth century. There is a noteworthy selection of works by some of the more important inventors of the ecclesiastical decorative arts in Malta. [Excerpt] | en_GB |
