Abstract: The purpose of this research study is to investigate and increase awareness about the use of digital tools in project management phases of the construction of schools in Malta. This study aims to explore whether digital tools are utilized in the project management stages of the construction of new governmental schools. This study is based on previous academic literature and studies and several interviews with individuals who have an integral role in the development of new schools. The findings show that the use of digital tools in Malta is not common and there is the need to invest in these digital tools. The school construction industry in Malta uses basic digital tools, but the findings show that there are more advanced digital tools available. In other countries, tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) have either already been introduced in the construction industry or are in the process of being implemented. This research study also explains critical success factors, and the findings show that project success has different meanings. The research available on this topic is limited, however in this day and age, the role of such digital tools is highly relevant. There might be several implications of introducing these digital tools because these can be costly and governmental organizations require several tendering procedures to supply these digital tools, but overall, these tools will surely benefit professionals and employees engaged in the project management of the construction of new schools.
