Cyber security : how well prepared is Malta’s workforce

Abstract

This dissertation aims to investigate the level of cyber security knowledge of employees working within Maltese companies. Using a survey that was circulated to local businesses, data was collected from employees occupying various roles in different departments of companies from several sectors. From the data collected, findings indicated that there is a lack of cyber security knowledge. This is attributable to a lack of importance given by the employers to the training given to employees, the quality of the information resources provided to employees, and a misunderstanding of what cyber security is and the vital role it plays in protecting the interest of a company. Based on further research, this paper also evaluated the benefits of implementing and circulating a cyber security policy document and whether companies are achieving better results from training their employees or from outsourcing the training to skill training companies. This paper also investigates the potential benefits of using Artificial Intelligence integrated into a company’s cyber security system.
