| Abstract: | My first impressions of Monsignor Scicluna are those of a diligent law student at University in the late seventies just before he discovered his vocation to the priesthood. He graduated in law a few years after I did. Always smartly dressed, he used to be in the company of other students always discussing some fine point of law, usually with his friend (later Judge) Giannino Caruana Demajo. When he decided to respond to his vocation, he still continued his studies graduating in law in 1984 and then followed the long road to priesthood. I vividly remember his ordination, for when he celebrated his first Solemn Mass at Lija, he invited all his parishioners to a reception at his parents’ house at Iklin. It was an event which marked his emphasis on pastoral work, even though he was soon to be transferred to duties in Rome at the heart of Catholicism. |
