Abstract: This paper describes the design, construction and testing of a Matrix Converter Permanent Magnet Motor Drive for an Electro-Hydrostatic Actuator (EHA) for aircraft use. The converter has been built using a 1200Volt, 35Amp Eupec Matrix Converter module. The Matrix Converter is used to control the speed of a permanent magnet motor that determines the position of a prototype Electro-Hydrostatic actuation (EHA) system. The paper includes test results of this converter in operation including the closed loop vector control of the motor.
