Abstract: The five newly-translated documents collected here are meant to shed light on the range of primary materials that are available on Meyerhold. They often highlight Meyerhold’s work on playtexts, for this work to emerge as a possible through-line cutting across the sources. The texts are sourced from across his career, starting with his letters to Anton Chekhov and ending with a defense of his practices articulated in 1936. In the Introduction, Meyerhold’s statements are contextualised within broader debates in order to show how these sources connect to bigger pictures.
