dc.description.abstract | Blockchain has been around for quite a while, and although its main usage was in cryptocurrency, this emerging innovative technology is being used across all sectors. Malta was one of the first jurisdictions to establish a legal framework for regulating Distributed Ledger Technologies, including Smart Contracts. An impetus is being felt in the adoption of blockchain into public services, starting off with rental contracts. A crucial element in this procedure is the notary, whose work includes several processes linking him with various entities, amalgamated with the physical transfers of documents. The aim of this dissertation is to get a good grasp of how the notaries view blockchain technology, and how this could facilitate their daily routine. Indeed, the researcher found that there is a lack of knowledge on the technology being discussed, yet the majority are in favour of a nationwide blockchain system which would offer huge advantages to the notarial work. The dissertation also includes interviews with different representatives that have come across blockchain in one way or another, either through being an expert in it or else using it to carry out public services. | en_GB |
