Abstract: Verdala Palace in Malta, commissioned by the Grand Master Hughes Loubenx de Verdalle (1582–1595), was built in 1586 by Gerolamo Cassar. The painting that decorates the vault of the main hall was whitewashed in the late 1930s and was only recently uncovered (Ellul 1998: 501; Scicluna 2005), whereby a decorative scheme representing ten mythological and allegorical figures was revealed.
