Abstract: The organizational commitment construct together with its dimensions and possible association with organizational performance is considered. Suitable measures are identified, and research is carried out among departmental heads in the Australian public sector.' The findings confirm that organizational peifonnance is a correlate of organizational commitment and that certain dimensions of organizational commitment play a more salient role than others. Implications are drawn, limitations are noted and directions for future research are discussed.
