Child exploitation on the dark web

Abstract

This study seeks to analyse child exploitation on the Dark Web by comparing secondary data from peer reviewed journals and studies to primary data gathered from interviews with local professionals. The aim is to use this research to identify any improvements that can be made to current local procedures, and to be able to further safeguard children’s safety on the Dark Web. Secondary data that was deemed necessary is reviewed in the literature review chapter. The following chapter explains what research methods the researcher used; in this case the research was conducted through the lens of qualitative analysis. The findings documented in the ‘Findings and Discussions’ chapter indicate that since law enforcement is lacking in manpower, children require further education on how to identify danger online. Training must also be provided to guardians and teachers, as they are the ones who are in contact with children every day; this would lead to better awareness when monitoring what a child is up to. It was also concluded that more international communication between foreign and local law enforcement is required, whilst also trying to develop or find more systems which can aid in the monitoring of children online. Furthermore, further study is required to find more effective procedures which can improve those currently in place.
