Abstract: Padre Pelagio Mifsud Gauci Piscopo (1708-1781) from Ħaż-Żebbug, Malta, a former diocesan priest, joined the Capuchin Order on 30th December 1742. A few years later in 1748 he spent time in Amalfi, as stated in one of his letters dated 4th February 1748. He does never reveal the name of the person to whom he was writing, even though its content may provide us with a number of clues. In this article we will deal with the content of this letter which forms part of the corpus of writings that belong to Padre Pelagio, one of the erudite Maltese writers of the eighteenth century.
