Abstract: A concern that many residents and homeowners share is the safety of their homes. The aim of this project is to design and implement a system that minimises any security vulnerabilities of a home by observing the state of the house and detecting any changes. The whole project is implemented in such a way that it would be completely independent of the user and would arm and disarm the home automatically. This process, of activating and deactivating the alarm system automatically, is done by using the values from the sensors used in the system and by checking if the user’s smartphone is connected to the home network. If an intrusion occurs, a smartphone push notification is sent to the user and a web server displays any necessary information on a web page that the user can then access. The alarm system takes into consideration other scenarios, for example, house fires, by measuring the room temperature of the kitchen. Apart from intrusions, the system may also raise alerts or warnings which are displayed on the web page and a smartphone push notification, detailing every situation, is sent to the user. An additional feature of the system is that it includes a sensor that is able to detect rain. The purpose of this feature is to facilitate the user’s life by checking if any windows are left open while it is raining. This alarm system is tested throughout the whole implementation and achieves successful results.
