Abstract: Background: Oral anticoagulation (OAC) reduces stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), however it is still underutilised. This study explored physicians’ experiences of AF consultations and OAC prescription.
Methods: Semi-structured individual interviews with physicians were conducted. Four sub-samples were recruited: (1) Consultant Cardiologists, (2) Consultant Physicians, (3) General practitioners and (4) Cardiology registrars. Data were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.
