Abstract: The current research will focus on the perception of how will the legalisation of cannabis affect future drug offences and how in turn this will relate to Probation. Since cannabis has been legalised in Malta in 2021, this research aims to find what is the perception of the general public regarding the effects this legislation might cause. This study goes into the nature of cannabis and examines studies done on the drug and its effects, thus giving a clear idea of whether the cannabis is advantageous or not as it is popularly believed. This study also explains research done on cannabis in countries where the drug has been legalised whether for medicinal or recreational use. This study goes in detail about debunking misinformation regarding cannabis which are widely believed by the general public. The researcher tried to see how does the public see the drug cannabis while also trying to see if this legislation would affect workers such as probation officers that deal with clients that use cannabis and how will this affect their work.
