Abstract: Terrain Vague takes its title from a phrase coined by Victor Hugo in Les Misérables which, architecturally refers to the existing urban void – the neglected post industrial space or even, more importantly the space where the city meets nature – a place of infinite possibilities. This exhibition acts within the metaphoric, negotiating space between smoke and clouds and is therefore the result of my continued interest in what I call the co-existence of dualities, a concern which has for quite some time resulted in a search for a dividing line, a seam if indeed one clearly exists, which holds together two apparently different, even at times opposing realities.
