David Xuereb’s oeuvre is uncannily deceiving. It knows its fortuitous birth to the unforgiving violence of fire’s radiance and yet is evidenced in the form of a fragile, caressing trace. This unsparing encounter of immense heat and vulnerable surface is manifest in the hauntingly ethereal carbon residue which, like the furtive touch of feather on skin, acts as a tender aide-mémoire of the artist’s momentary shamanic performance with his drawing medium.en_GB
