Abstract: Michael Xuereb's multicolour sky gradients are products of lens and light. They consciously frame out (perhaps also retouch out) any reference to meteorological condition or visual spectacle normally associated with photography of the wide blue yonder to focus objectively on pure colour. Their clear aesthetic belies the chromatic complexity that is perceived through experiencing the sophistication of present-day digital paint packages. In fact Xuereb's images sit ambiguously between photography and digital painting, between the products of light and those of colour, between seeing and making.
