Abstract: Perhaps there has been one thing the University of Malta has not done well enough hitherto. We have not blown our trumpets loud enough vis-a-vis our research accomplishments. Most academics worth their salt would rather get on with their research than spend time talking about it. Though understandable, such media shyness comes at a price. The perception one often reads from the general public - alas even amongst the political class - is that the University of Malta is predominantly engaged in teaching and that the research that takes place here is of little consequence nationally and is merely intended to support the teaching activity of the academics who conduct it.
