Abstract: The façade of certain buildings in the capital city of Valletta has changed significantly from the original plans constructed by Girolamo Cassar in the 16th century. This article analyses and provides evidence to prove the theory that all the seven Auberges built by the Langues of the Order in the new city of Valletta were initially built to face a public square. During the 17th century, certain Auberges had to be changed to allow for new buildings instead of public squares.
Description: From the private collection of Mr. Salvino Camilleri.
