Abstract: | Dating back at least to Adam Smith (1776), economists had identified both physical and human capital as key resources for generating economic activity and value (Grant, 1996; Guthrie et al, 2012; Nahapiet & Ghoshal, 1998). Subsequently largely forgotten, the concept of human capital was revived in the 1960s, “reaffirming its links with economic growth and … emphasizing its importance in explaining earnings differentials” (Laroche, Merette, & Ruggeri, 1999, p. 87). |
