Abstract: The electrical energy sector in the Maltese Islands is based upon two fossil-fuel generation plants located in the two main harbours at Marsa and Delimara. They have a combined nominal installed capacity of 571 MW, and are both operated by Enemalta Corporation. Enemalta is also the designated electricity distribution system operator in Malta and is responsible for the operation, upkeep and development of the electricity grid network. A number of grid-connected photovoltaic systems are in operation, although their contribution is to date small. [Excerpt]
