Abstract

Prosperous times have led to an increased demand for elective dental intervention. Glazed porcelain has a long history of use in dentistry as one of the most aesthetic and biocompatible materials available. In fact, the bonded porcelain laminate veneer is considered to be the second most requested porcelain restoration in the United States today. Consequently, clinicians have been pressured by both the general public and industry to adopt various techniques and materials in their practices that have been inadequately scrutinized. This article will outline the process involved in the fabrication of a porcelain laminate veneer — from the treatment-planning stage to final cementation — and will attempt to support the recommended procedures by means of a critical analysis of the available scientific literature.
