This collection of librettos originally belonged to Mikiel Ang Borg (1868-1939), the University Library bought these librettos from the heirs of Mr Borg in 1980, others were purchased from the heirs of Mr. Tancred Gouder. These are librettos of operas performed at the Real Teatro di Malta (The Royal Opera House) and also at the Teatro Manoel ( Manoel Theatre) in the early 19th and 20th century. These librettos were published for the Opera’s first performance in Malta. This collection of over 400 librettos includes some rare pieces by renowned Maltese composers such as Paolo Nani (1814-1904) and his son Antonio Nani (1842-1929), together with Carlo Diacono (1876-1942) and other Maltese composers. The original librettos are held at the Archives and Rare Books Section within the University of Malta Library.
