Abstract: | This dissertation explores issues related to screen to stage adaptation. As this kind of adaptation is becoming increasingly popular, a proper discourse is needed on how to analyse such adapted work. The study focuses on the different processes of application and creation of screen to stage adaptation. Additionally, to examine these processes, various perspectives are investigated in this dissertation, the actor, producer, and the spectator’s perspective. This focus on perspective is made to show the process of creating screen to stage adapted work. The study also deals with establishing screen to stage adaptation discourse, using existing scientific theories. The scientific theories applied in this dissertation are mental synthesis and the food chain. Both theories will be altered and applied to suit the needs of the creative context. The altered theories will help develop a further understanding of screen to stage adaptation, whilst shedding light on the state of adaptation as it exists through being dependent on something else to effect change. Thus, a complete acknowledgement of adaptation discourse in theory and practice may lead to a deeper understanding of both screen to stage adaptations and their processes. |
