Abstract: Applicable Law: Under Maltese law, carriage of goods by sea is principally regulated by the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act 1954, (Chapter 140 of the Laws of Malta). This Act gave the force of law to the Hague Rules (1924), which Malta acceded to in 1954. The applicability of the Hague Rules under Maltese law is limited to contract of outward carriage of goods by sea in any vessel used for that purpose where the bill of lading has been issued in Malta.
