Abstract: The Faculty of Education at the University of Malta is currently in the process of replacing its two current initial teacher education (ITE) programmes with a two-year Master in Teaching and Learning (MTL). This paper is based on a number of discussions among the members of Work Group (WG) 6 which is focussing on the practicum and mentoring components of MTL. What follows gives an indication of our emerging vision for the practicum (which we see as forming part of the wider field placement component of the MTL programme) that is intrinsically aligned to the recently agreed upon Faculty vision and MTL principles.
