Abstract: | Seeing God as the ‘Divine Other’ draws us to transcend ourselves and discover others as brothers and sisters. Reza Aslan’s controversial God: A Human History (2017) explores the idea that humans throughout the ages fashioned God in their image, rather than the other way around as claimed by the Judeo-Christian tradition. The author, a Shī’ite convert to Evangelical Christianity who reverted back to Islam, is an Iranian-American professor of creative writing at the UC Riverside and scholar in sociology of religion. |
